A boy was sitting at his table near the window. He was doing his homework. “Come” his mother called. “Have your breakfast.” The boy went to the kitchen and brought his breakfast. He was about to start eating when a beggar came to the window and said, “Please, give me something to eat. I have not eaten anything for two days”. The boy looked at the beggar. He was really very poor and hungry. He gave his breakfast to the beggar. The beggar quickly ate it. The boy felt sorry for him. He wondered how poor people could be. They don’t get anything to eat for two days and we eat four times a day. Now everyday the boy gave his breakfast to the beggar without his mother’s knowledge.

एक लड़का अपनी मेज पर खिड़की के पास बैठा हुआ था। वह अपना गृहकार्य कर रहा था। “आओ” उसकी माँ ने पुकारा, “अपना नाश्ता कर लो।”

लड़का रसोई में गया और अपना नाश्ता ले आया। वह खाना शुरू करने ही वाला था कि तभी एक भिखारी खिड़की पर आया और कहा, “कृपया मुझे कुछ खाने को दे दो। मैंने दो दिनों से कुछ नहीं खाया है।” लड़के ने भिखारी की ओर देखा। वह वास्तव में गरीब और भूखा था। उसने अपना नाश्ता भिखारी को दे दिया। भिखारी ने जल्दी ही इसे खा लिया। लड़के को उसके लिये दुःख हुआ। उसे आश्चर्य था कि लोग इतने गरीब कैसे हो सकते थे। उन्हें दो दिनों तक कुछ भी खाने को नहीं मिलता है और हम एक दिन में चार बार खाते हैं। अब प्रतिदिन लड़का अपनी माँ के बिना पता लगे भिखारी को अपना नाश्ता दे देता था।

One day the beggar did not turn up. The boy thought that he might come in the evening. He kept the breakfast in his bookshelf. The beggar did not turn up in the evening. The next morning, too, the beggar didn’t come. The boy again kept the breakfast in his bookshelf. The beggar did not come for some days. One day, when the boy was at school, his mother saw red ants all around his bookshelf. On the bookshelf she found her son’s breakfasts packed in a corner.

भिखारी कुछ दिनों तक नहीं आया। एक दिन, जब लड़का स्कूल में था उसकी माँ ने उसकी किताबों की अलमारी के चारों ओर लाल चीटियों को देखा। अलमारी पर एक कौने पर उन्हें अपने पुत्र के नाश्ते के पैकेट मिले।

In the evening the boy came back from school. His mother asked, “Why aren’t you eating your breakfast these days?” The boy said “Ma, I was waiting for the beggar to take his share”. Then he told his mother about the beggar. “He is very poor and hungry.” Said the boy. He doesn’t get anything to eat. I eat four times a day. So I give my breakfast to him.”
